So I’m watching a Japanese Movie on Netflix called Vampire Girl vs. Frakenstein Girl, from the get-go it looks like crap, but I decide to give it a shot anyway till about ten minutes in and this shit pops up.

Seriously Japan?

OU MY FUCKING GOD!! OH MY FUCKING GOD!! What the fuck is THIS??

I have been told about anti-blackness among South-East Asians but this is putting the KKK to shame!! Not only it seems OK to produce the most horrendous form of blackface, but to put it in a movie and commercialize it?? WOW

It is things like this that remind me that as black people, we are at the fucking bottom of the white supremacist racial hierarchy and this is why I sometimes experience deep distrust for other POC and will always put black people FIRST!

For those whining about the fact that conversations about race and racism are always based on the binarity of whiteness and blackness, please take a fucking hard look at this.

didnt i see this on youtube???

zorascreation: Oh. Fucking. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

my body is getting hot with rage. Every visit I make to Japan is so awkward for so many reasons… seeing this just blows my mind, though. This shit is the worst. It’s literally 5 minutes into the damn movie!

zorascreation: And this is why when my Black friends fawn over Japan, I feel compelled to remind them that anti-Blackness is a THING.

Oh my god. This is beyond disturbing.

must the entire world shit on us? What the fuck did we do to them, besides exist?

A lot of racist images of black people (manufactured in the United States) including minstrel images were actually distributed worldwide in the mid 1900s—blackface spread like hotfire across the world. In Japan, in the early 1960s, a toy called Dakkochan became hugely popular. Dakkochan was a black child with large red lips and a grass skirt. There were boy and girl dolls, with the girls being distinguished by a bow. The black skin of the dolls was said to have been significant and in-line with the rising popularity of jazz. Ganguro, a fashion style in Japan that arose in the 1990s, definitely resembled blackface, thereby causing even more controversy.
